Re: Two Instances FLDIGI one radio #fldigi

Bill Sweeney - W0WTS

My installation seems to operate well with no special or unusual com port setup but please note my system description as follows:
Computer: ~ 2005 vintage home built system now operating on Win7 Pro SP1
Radio is Kenwood TS-590 used almost exclusively for HF PLUS Kenwood TM-V71A used for 2m & 70cm voice and data
Sound Card is WinLink USB via DATA Port on HF radio PLUS second Winlink USB via Data Port on back of dual-band radio

Several (non-data) software apps are installed on this system and normally operational concurrently(#) along with Data software including FSQCall (v.0.24.6) and an FLDIGI suite (currently including FLdigi 4.1.17, FLmsg 4.0.19, FLamp 2.2.07 and FLwrap 1.3.5).  Normally these apps get along well together but certain ones [like zoom or browsers on some web sites] are microprocessor hogs so you may have to shed some of those loads as necessary.

I am able to operate FSQCall on both radios concurrently by opening a a second copy of FSQCall, and then properly NAME and SELECT the sound cards in each copy observing the specific sound card/radio path respectively. I can ALSO and likewise open and concurrently operate multiple copies(#) of the FLdigi suite, set the sound card selection for the specific sound card/radio path, designate one copy for FSQ4.5 at 1500 Hz on the waterfall and the other for another mode such as (for example) BPSK31 AND OTHER "MESSAGE" MODES at 700Hz on the waterfall.

(#) -- NOTE that you must avoid LOGIC CONFLICTS -- Don't install any stand-alone FSQ software such as FSQCall at 1500 Hz along with FLdigi set for FSQ at 1500 set for a given sound card/radio path. If BOTH selected at the same time, they may both receive without incident but would almost certainly not play well if both go into transmit concurrently.

By way of full disclosure, my personal preference is to use FSQCall (v.0.24.6) exclusively and, except for testing, avoid using any FSQ mode within FLdigi.  More to that story but will postpone for another time.

I have very limited specific familiarity of the IC-7610 using the built-in sound device, but expect all would work successfully if set up as described above.  Recommend you give it a shot and let us know through a reply post if you are successful.

I would be open to direct email or phone exchange should you desire.

Ken,

I've been running two instances of Fldigi for several years on both Linux and Win10, and it works great.  Several years ago I wrote instructions about how to do this, and those instructions are posted in this group's Files section.  Here is a direct link to the document you need, and the dual-instance discussion starts on page 4:  https://modes.groups.io/g/main/files/Old%20Docs/MO_FSQcall_Traffic_Procedure_v10.pdf

This was written for an older version of Fldigi since the document is several years old, and Dave (W1HKJ) redesigned the menu system, but the instructions should still be workable.

Two Instances FLDIGI one radio #fldigi

Ken W0KAH

A few years back, I had two instances of fldigi working with one radio by using com0com prt sharing software. That is not supported under Win 10 Pro, which I use for the computer I have running my Winlink Gateways and from time to fsqcall. Since fldigi now supports fsq, I'm interested in using two instances, one for fsq at 1500 Hz, and a second at 700 Hz for data.

My current radio is an Icom IC-7610, using the internals USB audio device, which works fine. The issue I have is that sharing com5 for ptt doesn't work .

How are others handling data & fsq at the same time, on one radio?

Thanks,
Ken W0KAH

MODES Net - Message Traffic TESTS

During the MODES net 9-9-2021 I will have FLmsg - Plain Text (p2s) as exercise traffic.

The first test will use MFSK32 @ 700 Hz. This mode is in use across the U.S. on various

Digital training nets as well as Digital Traffic nets.

IF time permits, a second test will conducted using Olivia-16/1000. The RATTS net daily
operation on 3598 has reliable data transfer with this mode.

Jeff, this was a good idea.  I'm in favor of doing it again.  Also ask that stations note the time of day that stations are heard.  While just a list of stations is valuable it doesn't provide needed time of day info.  Just sayin'

It was me and k0kex and AD0TU on 700 this morning.

Also not sure why stations are IDing with a /and alpha character designator.  Is this necessary?
